The Money Advice Project deals with a range of cases from one single debt through to representation at bankruptcy. Services Provided The Money Advice Project is led by Liz McTear, who has significant experience dealing with debt problems. Her role is to advise and support people who - for whatever reason - find themselves in financial difficulty. Early intervention can help stop those unwanted telephone calls. The cases dealt with range from one single debt through to representation at bankruptcy. The Advocacy in Wirral team also liaise with creditors and make arrangements for debt repayments which are affordable to clients. Eligibility Criteria This service is open to people with mental health problems from all areas of Wirral, whether they are in employment or in receipt of benefits. Liverpool Citizens Advice Partnership – Financial Capability Hub

A free service offering practical help and advice on money matters has been made available to residents on the Wirral. The Financial Capability Hub from Liverpool Citizens Advice Partnership works with housing associations, registered social landlords, pre-tenancy housing support agencies, Citizens Advice Bureaux and other advice agencies across Liverpool to support tenants with managing their money. Now, from 14 March, a Financial Capability Advisor will be available at Citizens Advice Wirral every other week – in Wallasey on Tuesdays and Birkenhead on Wednesdays. The Financial Capability Advisor, who is fully trained in understanding personal finance, will be on hand to offer free and impartial advice on: • Opening Bank, Credit Union or Building Society accounts • Budgeting, priority and non-priority expenditure and maximising your income • Meeting essential expenditure such as rent, council tax, gas, electric, water, phone & broadband, TV licence, insurances, food, furniture • Setting up direct debits and standing orders e.g. to pay rent • Using online comparison websites to get a better deal on fuel, telecoms, etc. • How to use an online benefits calculator to check entitlement and basic help with claims • Help with reading meters and understanding bill formats • Additional signposting where required to CAB advisors or other supporting agencies For more information, please call us on 0300 555 0131 or contact Liverpool Citizens Advice Partnership.

Recovery Wirral

The Money Advice Project (MAP) provides free, confidential information, advice and guidance in regards to debt and money management. The aim is to alleviate poverty by assisting those in the Wirral community struggling with debt, to manage and maximise their income. In addition, to remove and reduce the negative impact debt has on the mental health, whilst increasing their wellbeing. They have developed a partnership between 5 of the largest social landlords in Wirral to provide their service to their tenants. MAP recognises that due to the current economic climate, people from all areas of Wirral are losing their jobs and need more than ever financial/budgeting advice. In the last year they have supported over 498 tenants with over £3.8 million of debt and liaised over £199k worth of rent arrears. MAP has recently launched their service for carers, with particular reference to identify those who are not currently registered as a carer. Services Include: Supporting clients to identify the correct solution for their debts and liaising with landlords on their behalf. MAP also supports the client to complete a budget for the future.
