Healthwatch Wirral

Healthwatch Wirral is for local people and communities to influence and challenge how health and social care services are provided locally. They have also put together a number of useful links to help those who are searching for information on Health and Social Care Services.

Reading Well - Books on Prescription

Reading Well Books on Prescription helps people manage their mental health and well-being by providing accredited self-help reading through public libraries. Books can be prescribed by GPs or other health professionals but are also available on self-referral for anyone to borrow. Reading Well Shelf help for young people provides 13-18 year-olds with high-quality information, support and advice on a wide-range of mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, eating disorders and self-harm and difficult life pressures, like bullying and exams. Reading Well Mood-boosting Books scheme is a national promotion of uplifting titles, including novels, poetry and non-fiction.

Wirral Dementia Action Alliance

Wirral Alliance welcomes people and organisations from all areas of Wirral. Members are likely to focus on their own local areas, and come together to share good practice with neighbouring towns and villages to make the whole of Wirral a better place for people of all ages who are living with dementia, and for their carers. Member organisations who have signed up to the Wirral Alliance and submitted an action plan will be invited to regular meetings, where they can network with others and share good practice.

Wirral Library Service

The Library Service offers a range of activities and resources to help people stay fit and well. All of the activities connect with the Five Ways to Wellbeing, which encourage people to Connect, Be Active, Take Notice, Keep Learning and Give. In partnership with The Reader Organisation many of our sites offer shared reading groups. These aim to improve self-confidence and self-esteem, build social networks, widening horizons and give people a sense of belonging. Shared reading groups promote and provide a holistic approach to wellbeing. In addition to this health related activities are provided on a regular basis by libraries, with specific events being held in Health and Wellbeing week (January) and Adult Learners Week (June). Follow the Library Service on twitter @wirrallibraries, Facebook and for all news and events.
