Births, Deaths, Marriages and Citizenship Service

Hertfordshire Registration & Citizenship Service delivers birth, death, marriage and civil partnership registrations. Registration services are available in our offices in Watford, Stevenage, Hatfield, St Albans, Hemel Hempstead, Hertford, Cheshunt and Bishop’s Stortford. Citizenship services are available at the Citizenship Unit in Hatfield.

Citizenship Ceremonies

Under the Nationality, Immigration and Asylum Act 2002, all applicants aged 18 years or over who are accepted for naturalisation as a British Citizen are required to attend a Citizenship Ceremony. Local Office is in Hatfield.


Prepare for the Life in the UK Test or British citizenship test with the latest official study materials plus hundreds of practice test questions in the same format as the official test. You will need to be a member of Hertfordshire Libraries and use your library membership card number to log in.

National Citizens Service and Youth Connexions

National Citizen Service (NCS) is a fantastic life experience that reaches beyond school and is something which employers look for. Not only is NCS good fun, it’s a challenging, personal and social development programme which helps young people aged 15-17 (School Years 11 and 12) to build independence and confidence.

Settlement Checking Service

The settlement checking service is a partnership between UK Visas and Immigration, and Hertfordshire County Council. The service provides you with the opportunity to have your documents and application form checked when applying for settlement in the UK on a form SET (M). Fees apply.
